Dell PowerEdge 1600SC and Registered DDR

I just ordered a PowerEdge 1600SC from Dell

It comes with 128MB ram and I need to order an extra 512MB ECC Registered Ram.

Who should I order from?

I was looking at Crucial. THey have a good deal on 512MB

I need it for Stability and I'm going to test .net Server on it.

Well if you want real stability you'd order the RAM from Dell too as it will be tried and tested stuff.
However I'm assuming you are not too keen on the prices from Dell.

Branded RAM seems to be much of a muchness with regards stability.
I've used Kingston, Samsung and currently Crucial and never had a problem with any of them.

Local shop has simptech ram.

Never used them before.

Dell wanted almost twice what crucial was asking.

I got a heck of a a deal on the server, trying to keep costs down.

Anyways just trying to get some ram before I install .net Server. Might go get the Simpletech if you guys say its worth it.

I must admit it is not a brand of memory that I've ever heard of before.
It will probably be fine as most "unbranded" memory is major on third anyway.

Crucial is fine ... we have used it in the past to upgrade some of our older ibm 5500 servers ...

My vote would be for Crucial RAM, personally. I would stay away from unknown RAM manufacturers, at least for a server.

Again a vote for Crucial. You're getting it at half the Dell price, and, this isn't the place to economize.

If you're ordering by spec, make sure it's CAS2... Nobody makes bad CAS2

Well was gonna do crucial but they were offering free 2nd day shipping, but for some reason, there is a different 2nd day shipping for Hawaii they wanna charge me.

SO I'll get the local ram.

At least I can take it back providing something goes wrong.

but can your recover any data that could get lost of the memory fails....?

YEah, I got dual SCSI so the drives will be mirrored.

The Server is for a testing machine for my MCSA, so I won't have any critical data on it till I pass my tests.
