thats exactly how windows worked for me and what xp was like funny thing is im at school and then all these errors just popped up

The Firewall in XP [W]ill block some stuff from coming in (when it is activated. Default=Not Activated). But does nothing about the information that goes out of your PC.

Ain't that neat?

The XP firewall only prevents you from seeing what it sends to Microsquat. :x
