    100Mbps and max bandwith

Video is uncompressed and filtered on "client" machines, than send through the network to a "server" machine that mix and display the final movie (one machine can not uncompress 3 or more videos, filter them and mix them in RT). So I don't need fast HD but a HIGH bandwith (100 Mbps is enough for 3 stream of 320x240x16bits uncompress) Awx - virtual video jockey

    100Mbps and max bandwith

I wanna run a LAN with 2 or more computer and wanna know what is the best bandwith I can reach between 2 computers ? I mean, can I ever dream have more than 80% of the 100 Mbps written on my card. My hardware : - LAN Card : 3Com 10/100 PCI 3C905BTX 10/100 Mbps (already reached 40 Mbps) - LAN switch : NetGear FS 108 10/100 Mpbs (8 ports) I wanna have a 80 Mbps network (HQ multimedia streaming). Is it possible ? Windows98 vs Windows2000

1 - Windows Millenium is a $hit : Win98 Kernel will never be as stable and solid as NT Kernel. 2 - Win2k drivers are still under beta release so they will improve day by day (I've won more than 30% fps since I've started Win2k (september99)). 5.13b ins't so far from Win98 benchmarks and it seems the end of the tunnel isn't that far. 3 - If you wanna have a Win98like stable OS, try Windows Neptune : it's Win2klite (Win2k kernel with easy configuration). It as graphics improvement so may be faster than Win2k in games (according to me, the best benchmarks of Neptune are made using Win2k basic drivers (<3.50) vs Neptune current drivers (5.13b)). Awx

    win2k 5.13 beta

Quote: Originally posted by [PhoeniX]: Hi again... So where do you enable TV OUT !!?? A friend who has a TNT2 (Xentor32) managed to switch it on but you have to reboot each time you switch from monitor to TV and from TV to monitor. I have a V3800 TVR (tvin&out) but I can't see the TV-Out option (no TV connected to the card). It seems you must have a TV set connected to your card (it can detect it and a wire isn't enough). So first, try to connect a TV Set on your card, and then it should appear (U may have to reboot since you have connected your TV). If it doesn't work, it may come from your TNT 1 (TNT2 and GForce work fine but I've never seen a TNT working cos I don't have one to test), or the fact you have a ASUS : did you install any ASUS driver ? try to fully uninstall them (delete every ASUS related entry in registry with RegEdit) and reboot then install a standart basic VGA driver, reboot a third time and install finally 5.13b NVidia driver (just to have a FULLY clean install). If you manage to get TV-Out with your TNT, plez tell it (I wanna make a FAQ for video under Win2k with every feature you can have on each card). 7. Sorry J but I don't believe you were joking with DOS. And it becomes more and more pathetic each time you try to "explain" your behavior. And even if you were just kidding, it's so stupid and nosens you shouldn't remind about it. Let's try to forget about it and don't try to start a new 7 pages thread again.:| Awx

Video Card : what supported features ?

I found the thread funny , but don't want to speak about it here. So if you don't have anything to say about what you can or can't not do, plez don't write in this thread. I want to write a videocard FAQ to tell people what they may manage to do with their card on Win2k today. Awx
  9. Ok, guy, I've been out since 17 feb and the Newbie crisis and it appears it's not over (DOS&Win2k ). Can you all plez do a little check up from differents cards and tell what is and isn't supported ? For example, if someone as a G400, can he tell exactly what he can do (dualhead, TVout, ...)? the same for TNT2 and all other cards. As you give the answer, plez give the exact model of your card, and the driver version, and if you had to do extra initialization, plez explain. I wanna write a video card FAQ for Win2k and need to know what we can get to work on each card, right now. As I don't really want people to says twice or more the same thing, if some one already gave an answer, don't need to say it again. OpenGL refresh rates?!

Already answered, try the search button. It depends of the appz and the card you're using. Awx

    Dual Processor vs Single Processor.

SMP = symetric multi proc I don't think it does really work at 100%with CPU at different speed. Awx

    Gaming at 700MHz

Iwould say the sames thing as Seldzar : nVidia drivers are not so great (I run under TNT2) butwill be the only limitation in your system. But be aware that it's the only limitation: Win2k is faster and better than Win98 for many things (disk access, memory management, ...) so with Win2k your box will go faster and faster while drivers will get better. Win98 is faster for some gamesand equal for other but Iwill NEVER switchback to this old crapcos Win2k is much better (stability and memory managment: cracshed only 10 times since I installed RC2 in October, and I cames from old TNT drivers). Just try Win2k and you'll never quit . Awx

    LAN games in win2k

According to me, it's coming from Q3 and notthe LAN : Q3 may be crashing so quitting suddenly. Q3 is using OpenGL which is quite buggy under Win2k and I think the other games you mentionned are running D3D. As you are under Win2k, it does not kill you computer (under Win98, you may have to reboot). Just try another driver for you video card. To play IPX games under TCP/IP, use Kali.
