    Detonator Issues

Well, I formatted, and the problem is still there. I installed the 40.72 drivers first before doing anything else and the display panel tab just crashes everytime saying a dll could not be run as an app. So, all my games are dark at high res as I can't change the gamma level. Homer

    Detonator Issues

Well, got rid of the error messge. It was in MSconfig, trying to load nvqtwk for some reason. But now the Geforce3 control panel refuses to load in the display properties. the tab is there, but clicking on it just generates an error stating it could not run a dll as an app. I might just scrap this install of XP and restart from scratch.

    Detonator Issues

Its been a while since I last posted here, been out in the scary real world. Anyways, I don't seem to be able to install any of the 40.xx series of detonator drivers on Windows XP. I have a GF3, which has worked fine with the other drivers. However, upon installing these, I get a "Could not Load module NVQTWK.DLL" message everytime i boot up. I've tried uninstalling the older drivers, using Windows to install the driver rather than running the setup program, manually deleting all the old files etc etc. but nothing has solved this issue. So, if anyone has come across this before and knows how to fix it, I would appreciate if they could let me know. Specs: Athlon 1.4 512Mb PC133 RAM GF3 64Mb Windows XP Pro Cheers Homer

Need to find an old Tip for WinXP

A few months ago (or last year) there was a registry edit to increase the amount of bandwidth that XP reserves for itself (Like 20%). Now, since I had used that edit, I have had to reinstall but can't remember what the reg edit was. If anyone knows, could they send me link to the instructions? Cheers in advance Homer

    Internet Time Keeping Wrong?

Bit of a strange one this. XP is currently set to update its system clock from time.windows.com. But, I noticed a difference from the computers time, and that of everyother clock in the house. I phone our Telephone Clock here in the UK which stated that Windows XP was running some five minutes slow (Great Britain GMT) This morning it was 9 mins slow. Changed it to Time.Nist.Gov, which put my clock back on track. So I suggest to people they check their computers, as M$'s own time server is running slowly. Homer

    BAD_POOL_CALLER error

Hi all Started getting BAD_POOL_CALLER BSOD's yesterday, had about four in total now. Think its something to do with my USB controller on my Abit KT7A RAID. I recently bought a Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual Power Gamepad, and upgraded the software and drivers from Thrustmasters website. Now I get the crashes. Anyone had this sort of situation before? Homer

    XP losing my Tray Icons!

AlecStaar, You are totally correct in regards that the NT based O/S is loading the programs or services associated with the missing icons, but the icons are not appearing in the System Tray. However, it looks like NAV2002 is causing a delay in starting its autoprotect or someother service, therefore, I discovered that if I login as soon as the login screen appears, the icons kept disappearing whilst NAV was still loading. Now, if I have to restart my machine (as it is on the majority of the time anyway), I let it wait at the login screen for about 20-30 seconds, so NAV has had time to do its thang! Login, and it all loads normally, and even allows almost instant access to the Taskbar (Which is usually still loading because of DHCP. Homer

    Hard Drive Controllers gone screwy!

Everything was running fine for a couple of days, but I still wasn't happy with the driver situation... I removed the new VIA Busmaster Driver, and now suffer a familiar BSOD on bootup. Guess that I can reinstall over the top of my installation to correct it, but won't be able to try that till tonight. Homer

    Hard Drive Controllers gone screwy!

I upgraded the bios on my KT7A-RAID today, which has caused some unusual side effects. In Device Manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, I now have the following: Primary BM ULTRA DMA Channel Primary IDE Channel <---------- Exclamation Mark Secondary IDE Channel VIA Busmaster IDE Controller Now, earlier I had totally lost my CD-RW drive which is on the secondary channel. At this point, the Primary IDE, Secondary IDE and a Secondary BM ULTRA DMA Channel were all exclamated. I uninstalled the Seconday BM ULTRA DMA one, which has returned the CD-RW to me, but I'm unsure whether I'm still getting the same drive performance from my system with drivers being disabled. I can only assume its because of the BIOS change, I have no idea otherwise. Athlon 1.2Ghz 768Mb RAM Abit KT7A-RAID (Bios Rev: 4A) Geforce 3 SB Live Player 5.1 Windows XP Pro Heh, seems this week my pc has decided to be a stubborn little git. Thanks in advance, Homer I forgot to add, I installed the new VIA Busmaster driver earlier last week, but everything was ok after it.

    Winxp boot up hanging

I made a bit of a discovery earlier. Whilst playing around with my startup, I brought NAV2002 back in, but didn't log in straight away. I left it for about 20-30 seconds, then logged in, and all of my icons appeared, as well as the taskbar becoming active a hell of a lot quicker. It seems that Udo is right, and that NAV2002 is taking too long to initialise its Autoprotect feature. I have WinXP on my laptop also, without NAV2002 installed, and it boots a lot faster from the login. Hopefully, Symantec will get a fix in the works soon. Homer

    XP losing my Tray Icons!

Four and Twenty, I saw that post, and uninstalled Norton Utils 2002 and disabled NAV2002 which starts up, but my problems still persist. It takes at least a minute for the taskbar to become available for use, and I don't know why. Plus suddenley XP seems to be crashing randomely now, so it looks like I might have to do a reinstall altogether. Homer

    XP losing my Tray Icons!

Yep, covered this one before, but this is starting to infuriate me now! XP randomely decides what icons its going to load into my system tray. Sometimes it forgets my Volume Control (The little Speaker), other times it forgets the Network Connection Icons, and also leaves out the Audio HQ control for my Soundblaster Live. I'm thinking its something to do with the programs that start up with Windows, as it takes a good minute or two for the taskbar to become available. This is what I have load up on startup: 1) Zone Alarm Pro 2) DNS2GO Redirector (Service) 3) Volume Control 4) Audio HQ 5) Norton AV 2002 6) Network Connection for Cable Internet 7) ICQ 2001b I've just disabled NAV 2002, which has allowed the Network Connection icon to appear, but the Volume control still needs to be reset in the Sound and Audio Control Panel. As I write this, the Audio HQ icon still hasn't loaded. Now, before anyone suggests that its the "Hide Inactive Icons" thing, forget it as I tried that already and everything has been reset to default, i.e. "Hide when Inactive". So, if anyone else has suffered this problem, and hopefully has fixed it, let me and other that may be suffering know.... Good News for XP gamers, at least GeForce III Visiontek user

I have an Elsa Gladiac 920 and the update doesn't exist there for me either. Is it specifically P3 & GF3?

    Bit OT!

A bit off topic, but does anyone now of a small utility that can go through my Favourites folder and test all my bookmarks to see if the sites still exist? Then I can select which ones to delete etc etc... Would take me a few hours to do it manually, and quite frankly I have better things to do. Cheers for any suggestions. Homer
