    TV Capture Cards.

Hi, I had been using the old VFW drivers when I first installed, as the Hauppauge XP WDM ones weren't ready, and I had never had any luck with previous WDM drivers. Then, when I saw that Hauppauge had posted new WDM drivers, I decided to give them a go, not expecting them to work, but surprise surprise, they worked perfectly! I have also installed them on another pc with a WinTV-pci card, and they work fine there too (XP as well). This system config: Athlon XP1800+ @ 1.7GHz Epox 8K7A+ 512MB DDR Elsa Gladiac 920 GF3 (22.80 drivers) WinTV Theater card Creative SB Audigy Platinum 3COM 905b NIC 2X IBM60GXP 60GB drives in RAID0 (on mb highpoint) ACPI is enabled The other pc is: Athlon TBird 1.4GHz @ 1.53GHz Abit KT7A 256MB SDR Creative Annihilator2 Geforce2 GTS Creative SB Live Platinum 5.1 WinTV-pci ACPI disabled Brendan

    TV Capture Cards.

My Theater works great in XP with the latest WDM drivers from the hauppauge website. Wintv and WinDVR work great with them, and nicam stereo still works.

    Win TV Problem

You did try the October 25th WDM drivers from Hauppauge, and not Windows Update? The newest Hauppauge ones are great IMHO (first WDM drivers to not lock up my system when starting wintv), and love being able to have TV filling the window rather than 800x600. Did you try manually adding the channels based on numbers? I always add mine like this, and it always works too. Brendan

    Considering SBLive for my win2k...

Livedrive II has been standard with the Platinum in Europe for months. All newer creative sb lives have the exact same card, just with extras plugged in; the Player 1024 can be expanded to a Livedrive II for example. The discontinued Value edition is a different card in that it doesn't have a digital mini jack and it can't be upgraded to Livedrive II. Brendan

    UT won't run on Win2K

Runs fine here with Voodoo5 in D3D mode. Only problem I have is that the mouse is incredibly fast. Like moving the mouse an inch will cause me in the game to rotate 360 degrees. I have the mouse speed in UT on slowest, but it still goes like crazy. Brendan

    satellite internet in win2k?

Your problem sound exactly the same as with the Pent@Net dual processor problem. Starts up, you click the seek button, select the transponder, and wham, the thing locks up. Here is a clip of what I got from my contact in Pentamedia Europe: Quote: I got positve feedback today on the TV option. Will have to wait a while longer though. The importance of Windows 2000 as a replacement for 98 has been acknowledged though. Also version 2.6 of the applications is going to be released soon. A lot of API functions are going to be included I have been informed (new services want them). Dual processor problem has never been solved. I ask them about once a month for an update on that issue. 'Them' as referred to in the dual processor bit are the software developers in Korea. Brendan. [This message has been edited by bkehoe (edited 29 June 2000).]

    satellite internet in win2k?

I forgit to say that the hang ups didn't happen with teh first beta drivers which had build 311 of the monitor utility. The current ones have build 313. I can't seem to get rid of the current ones, so I may reinstall and put on the 'old' working drivers. But 1 - 3 hangs per day is better than the app hanging whenever you try to lock onto a transponder. Brendan

    satellite internet in win2k?

I own 3 satellite cards. Pentamedia Pent@Net Pentamedia Pent@Vision Harmonic Cyberstream SAT1. Here are my findings: Pent@Net works fine in Win2k, but does not work at all with dual processors, confirmed by my Pentamedia contact in the UK office, and he says that they are fixing it. Pent@Vision, same as Pent@Net with dual processors, but as above, TV doesn't work, which is the same as in NT, and I am not sure if they will add it, but I will be finding out, as I am reviewing the Pent@Vision. Cyberstream SAT1 is magnificent in Win2k. Works fine in my BP6 with dual Celerons with no crashes. Occasionaly it just seems to hang up. If I try to close it, it will lock the system, so a restart is needed. This happens around 3 times a day with me. I use these cards with EON. I use the Pentamedia cards on PCs running Win Me, but have tried both in Win2k. But note that I have failed to get the SAT1 to work with the new EON login system, which is supposed to let FTP Clients work via the proxy. Things like Getright, and IE work fine with FTP, but transponder 103, which only has the new login system is supposed to allow FTP clients like Cute FTP to operate via the proxy. Also, the Pent@Vision is the only satellite card offering TV and basic Win2k drivers. I haven't seem Win2k drivers for any of the other cards that offer FTA TV. To receive TV (other than the few channels which use media player with EON), you need a card offering TV decoding, which is usually double the price of one without. If you want one that can accept cards, then is is about 3 times the price of the basic card with no TV. Note that the Sky Digital interface is a closly guarded secret, and only the Sky 'digibox' can recognise the Sky smart card, which means that even a card like the Pent@Vision-CI can't currently view pay-per-view digital channels on sky digital. Hauppauge WinTV-USB

Also, the USB version works perfectly in Win2k for me on the laptop. Brendan

    Hauppauge WinTV-USB

I have a Win/TV-pci in my main desktop system and also have a WinTV USB FM Radio. Both are excellent with crystal clear picture. The quality is the exact same with the USB, bit I notice if the laptop is working hard at something, the sound will come about 200ms before the picture. The other person who replied mentioned the overlay 'problem'. I bet you he is using the 3.53+ detonator drivers. NVidia changed something in 3.53+ which prevented the WinTV from doing overlay in Win9x, and in Win2k limiting it to 800x600. This isn't Hauppauge, it is nvidia, as it works fine in my TNT2 Ultra with 2.08 in Win 98/Me, Voodoo5 and Voodoo3, as well as ATI Rage Pro. I never watch the real TV now. I can now browse the net during ad breaks, record onto hard drive, e.t.c. Chipsets I've used it with: MVP3, LX, BX, AMD 750 and KX133. 0 problems. Brendan

    Web Site Hosting

Hi, I've got a computer running Windows 2000 in a school, and it's got 5 IP addresses on the web. I was wondering if someone could give me instructions or a link on how to configure win2k to be a primary and secondary dns server and how to host web sites (domains) on the remaining IP addresses. Thanks, Brendan.

    Liveware 2000 4 speakers

Hi, I can't seem to enable the 4 speaker output for the Line-In port on my SB Live. I could enable it on my Win98 install with Liveware 3 which also enabled me to adjust the treble and bass on the line-in. I use this for my Win TV card. Brendan
