    please help.....grub screwed my MBR!

had similar problem but was able to recover windows mbr using mandrake cd1. if you are able to get your hands on mandrake 10.1 cd rom disc 1, just boot from that cd, at the boot prompt press F1, type rescue. in the options menu there will be restore windows boot loader. I think this should solve your problem
  2. tried vasm & nasm but did not detect the lancard. how to bring up the interface inet1 / eth0 or close the device using command line option from terminal window? ifdown & ifup commands are not recognised by vector

how to install windows xp , red hat and mandrake linux

I was once having win98, XP, mandrake 10.1 & knoppix on my system. All running fine without any conflict. First of all let me clarify that i have 2 hdd 80 GB each. 1 hdd was dedicated only to windows & the other to linux. I first installed knoppix then installed mandrake 10.1 on a different partition. this wrote out the MBR ofr knoppix. I coppied following files to /boot dir of mandrake from knoppix: system.map, initrd.img, vmlinuz edit /grub/menu.lst file as title "name of new distro" root(hd1,0) kernel/boot/vmlinuz "kernel no" ro root=LABEL=/initrd/boot/initrd "kernel no" .img try out. it worked fine for me.
  8. Thanks a lot for the help. It took almost 36 hrs for me to install vector linux on the system, maybe because of low RAM. But it worked. the system is up & running. thanks a lot again.
  9. thanks, will try out vector linux link & get back to you.
  10. the configuration is as follows: i486 32mb ram video card i have no idea 4.1 GB hdd I was able to load win98se2 on the machine but it kept on getting courrupt.I am more interested in linux (any distro) as the system is stabel & is to be used primarily for data entry. Is it possible for me to create some sort of .bat file so as to load the iso image from the hdd itself? thanks
