  1. I put my CD in the drive and it gives me a menu where I select Install. Nothing happens. I go to Setup folder on the CD and try to run setup.exe from there, same result. I have Windows XP and have tried Win 95/98 compatibility mode without help. What I do now? Found something related to this from Google but no solution.

Oh sorry, I move it myself so you can delete this thread.

  4. My previous setup was Ubuntu Linux and Windows 2k.. yestarday I made a "new" install of win xp because I got sick of the plain 2k look. But it didn't erase the partition? I tried installing again, same thing, win2k is still there (with windows xp on another partition of course). So now how do I get rid of either both of them so I can install xp again, or just 2k?
  5. FYI: I figured it out. Dell Dimension 8100s are type AT cases. The standard is type ATX. Dell Dimensions are not the standard type, so to change the case you would have to get a new motherboard (and processor/ram?).

    Multipe loads of svchost.exe?

It is normal for there to be multiple instances of svchost.exe see http://www.ntcompatible.com/svchost.exe_blowing_up_my_shit._t32998.html
  7. I have been looking everywhere for information about this, and I would be eternally grateful if someone could answer this question. I have a Dell 8100 as well. I want to buy a new ATX case (see http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=678517). I spoke to Dell and they said that my motherboard was an AT type. I have a power supply that I can move to the new case, and if that doesn't work Ill buy the adapter. BUT I can't figure out if my motherboard will fit in the new case, since the AT/ATX specs are mostly about the positioning of the holes in back of the case. And now Im even wondering if I can remove my dell motherboard... If anyone could tell me if it is possible to use this new case I would very much appreciate it.

My Sims Game keeps shutting off by itself!

This might be a video-driver problem. Make sure you update your ATI/Nvidia divers. Also don't use illegal software and drop those load of bug ridden, dumb, slow and vulnerable pieces of turkey poo called Internet Explorer and Outlook (-Express = same poo) and use Firefox and Thunderbird. Safer, faster, better and free too. Nice themes and plugins etc. etc. Everything Explorer and Outlook should be. Also make sure you run a virusscanner. Try Avast! It's free for home users. Have fun!

  11. I had a similar problem with my Canon "Canoscan 3000F" scanner in Windows 2003 Server -- I was on the verge of changing OS's when I thought of trying this (it works now): - The WIA driver works fine. The scanner can complete the device test OK, and I even hear the scanner head moving, so I *know* it's not a USB/hardware/communication/driver/etc. problem. - When I try to scan from any app that has TWAIN support I get a 'no devices installed' type error. - My scanner has buttons. The buttons show up as mappable to application launches in the WIA control (in Scanners and Cameras folder). - To edit the list of apps (and add any arbitrary one you like), use regedit and add them in <HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\StillImage\Registered Applications>. - Then, map the app to the scanner button and press it. Now, when I press the scan button on the scanner, it launches my app with the TWAIN driver loaded and fully accessible -- the actual one that came with my scanner, not just the crappy WIA one. Apparently, you don't even need to have an app that supports command line scanner switches (as the ones that show up in that list normally do); windows will sense the button-press and somehow magically make the TWAIN driver accessible. Hope this solves your problem too, ~Felix.

Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate on XP - help?

I got it to work and i have no problems running it. I actually contacted the Danish Ubisoft department and asked if we could get the source code, but it showed up that Ubisoft didn't got the rights for Chaos Gate when taking over SSI, to bad because i couldn't get any contacts, i think there is no hope for an unofficial patch...
