  1. Hallo! Some notes and questions referring to USB for Windows NT: DELL's USB-software for NT with the Inside-Outside Drivers works great with mem-sticks. Sticks don't come up with special drivers, they are plugged and recognized at once, a drive with new letter is created. The USB-Software even plays in combination with hubs, when the usbhub-driver in R62200 has been changed against a new version from Inside-Outside. Now the problems: The digi-cam is recognized at once plugging it into one of the four hub-ports, but ... here the log-file of UsbTray.exe for the digi-cam (it's that tiny "cult"-JamCam!) VID ?????????????????? (obviously there is no vendor-Id to be found in the registry!) Device Descriptor: 12011001FF01FF084E080100000101020001 Config Descriptor: 09021900010100C0000904000001FF010000070581020800FF Class: 255 (0xFF) Class Name: Vendor Specific SubClass: 1 (0x1) Protocol: 255 (0xFF) Power (mA): 0 (0x0) Powered by: Power Supply Manufacturer: KBGear Interactive Product Name: JamCam Driver ;(??????????? (The USB-software doesn't know which driver to take!) Load Status: Loaded NT Error Status: -1073741275 (0xC0000225) USBD Error Status: 0 (0x0) Error Msg: No Registry Entry Found for Device ID and here the log for the mem-stick: VID08EC_PID0012_RootHub0_Port1_Port3 (from where does the software know the Vendor-Id of the stick?) Device Descriptor: 1201000200000040EC081200000201020301 Config Descriptor: 0902200001010080590904000002080650000705810240000007050202400000 Class: 8 (0x8) Class Name: Storage SubClass: 0 (0x0) Protocol: 0 (0x0) Power (mA): 178 (0xB2) Powered by: USB BUS Manufacturer: Kingston Serial Number: 08709C3504000AF1 Product Name: DataTraveler2.0 Driver: usbms (obviously the USB-software takes this driver automatically) Load Status: Loaded NT Error Status: 0 (0x0) USBD Error Status: 0 (0x0) Error Msg: 1. Why doesn't this happen with the camera, it's a storage-device too?! Or does the USB-software "see" something different? 2. From where can I get a registry-entry for the camera's device ID? There is an INF-File and a driver supplied with the camera, unfortunately it's provided for Windows98 and ME not for NT. 3. Any chance to enter manually the specific data into the registry, above all the device-entry? Any hint appreciated! Bye, Hajo

USB 2.0 and Win NT 4.0

R62200.exe installs the usb-drivers in system32/drivers/ and the registry. Finally you'll see the tray-icon of usbtray.exe an usb-viewer. Double-click and a window opens to show you the different usb-ports of your computer. A mem-stick will be recognized at once and installs an new drive, check it in your explorer. Hard to believe, but it works! A printer, a floppy or anything like that should work too, the drivers are installed, I didn't try it. But, unfortunately there is no driver to manage the data-transfer to and from a digi-cam, the cam will be recognized only, that it's there (with vendor name and device number), nothing more. Sorry, I know that won't help to solve your problem, but I hope to give you an impression what's going up with NT and USB. Bye, Hajo

USB 2.0 and Win NT 4.0

Try R62200.exe, it's from DELL and contains a set of InsideOutside Drivers. You'll find it in the web as download. But be aware, DELL's tools don't support USB-Hubs. Thus download ipn4255.exe from InsideOutside Networks. It contains a hub-driver usbhub.sys which is an update to the version in R62200.exe. Mix it up and you'll have a pretty functional NT-USB environment. Unfortunately no cam-driver. Good luck, Hajo
  4. Hallo! DELL's download R62200.exe for USB-NT 4.0 works great with memory-sticks, printers, but is obviously incompatible with USB-hubs. My 4-channel hub runs fine in a Win 2000 environment, but the usbhub.sys, the I/O-Network hub-driver supplied by R62200 and installed in system32/drivers doesn't detect the hub. The driver comes up with the message "Error Can't read Hub-Descriptor". Does anyone know what that means? Any idea appreciated! Hajo

    USB-Hub on NT 4.0 SP 6

Hallo! Some weeks ago I downloaded that favourable USB-patch from DELL R62200.exe. It really works great, e.g. mem-sticks plugged in, a new device is visible in the explorer. So far so good! But my USB-Hub doesn't behave as I expect. Though as to the supplier the device is 1.X and 2.0 compatible, I always get the error message "Error Can't read Hub-Descriptor". Dell's USBHUB-Driver is loaded. Any idea appreciated! Bye, Hajo
