Hosting via Network

Ever since I set up the LAN I have been able to play both IPX and TCP/IP games through the LAN with no problems. However, if I am using the server computer for work and someone tries to set up the client computer to play a game, people outside the LAN can not connect. Any advise on this is appreciated.
