Hello all!

I'm running Win2k dual-booting with Win98. I've set up modem dial-up networking to the Internet.

Everything is set as per default. After successfully handshaking and verifying the username/password, Win2k stops momentarily (about 10-20s) at "Registering your user at the network" (I think that's the msg, roughly..)

Checking Task Manager shows SERVICES.EXE taking up 100% of the CPU time. After about 10-20s, I'm logged on and can surf.

Any ideas why this is happening? FYI, there are 2 services which fail to start upon Win2k bootup (as reported in the Event Viewer) :

SAM failed to start the TCP/IP or SPX/IPX listening thread
0000: d3 06 00 00

&

The Distributed File System service depends on the following nonexistent service: LanmanWorkstation

---

FYI, the Dial-Up Networking was working fine initially, and then both the services failed to start and I think as a consequence I'm having the above problem.

I use a external Cirrus Logic 33.6kbps MD-3450 modem.

Any insight into this matter is highly appreaciated. smile
