Can anyone tell me why I get a "sharing violation" after I work with files inside a folder then try to do something to the folder itself (like rename it, move it, or delete it)?

I am logged in as administrator and should have all rights to do anything I want, right?

OS is a fresh install of Windows 2000 - and this happens every single time.

its easy because windows doesnt like letting go of the properties of the folder until all the windows are closed. Try doing a refresh then deleting it. If it still comes up then a file is being used within the folder

Nope, I *swear* to you that I take those precautions already - no files are in use, not even a windows open showing the view inside the folder...

Is there any possibility there is some sort of indexing service or something like that running in the background I don't know about?

My boss's computer does this too.... it did it on NT4 server, and still does it on Win2k server. Weird thing is, it will let you delete all of the files in the directory, but not the directory itself. Always had to reboot to release the directory. Ideas anyone?

happens all the time here, some programs dont like to release files within the folder properly (acdc is notorious for this) also check to make sure that the program you where last "looking" at the folder with is actually shut down and not in some half-dead stats acdc is also very good at pretending to be dead but keeping files "open"

Yeah I get that gd message from time to time but I have not figured out a cause or a solution it seems to be something of a quite random nature. But maybe acdc is the cause I use that program quite often (it is my default viewer for all images)

GetRight can have a similar effect, locking the save to directory in use.

hmmm.... I guess it could be acdsee causing the problem, since my boss does have it installed. I never have a problem on my machine though, which is also running acdsee. Mine is win2k pro though, maybe that makes a difference?
