[SCALE 11X] One for the record books

Recommended Posts

The Southern California Linux Expo turned their annual event up to 11

this year in more ways than one.

SCALE 11X, celebrating its 11th anniversary as the first-of-the-year

Linux/Open Source expo in North America, played host over the weekend

to more than 2,300 attendees visiting more than 100 exhibitors and

hearing more than 90 speakers giving a wide variety of presentations

during the course of the three-day event.

Many of the sessions had full attendance, and some were in overflow

status. A testament to the quality of the presentations during the

course of SCALE 11X is that some of the final presentations on Sunday

afternoon were also full.

Videos of the presentations are currently being collected and

processed, and will be available for viewing as soon as possible. An

announcement when these are ready will be made, with accompanying

links.

Also, the two-day SCALE 11X Linux Beginner Class successfully trained

32 new Linux users in installing Linux and doing basic system

configuration.

The SCALE Team would like to thank its sponsors for their continued

support: IBM, Facebook, Rackspace, BeachBody, Servers Direct;

Hewlett-Packard, Puppet Labs, M-GO, OpenNMS Group, SaltStack,

OpenStack, Arista, Odroid, Opscode, AMD, Seamicro, Pogo Linux, MySQL,

Google, MediaTemple, Perforce, CFEngine, Ticketmaster, Reliam, Linux

Professional Institute, One Course Source, Mozilla, Cars.com,

Edgecast, Q, Ubuntu, Serversdirect, Ooyala, Github, and Dreamhost.

SCALE would also like to thank the media sponsors as well: Linux

Journal, Linux Magazine, ACMqueue, and Backbone.

More importantly, SCALE 11X would not be possible without the support

and behind-the-scenes work of their volunteers, which make the show

the great event it is on an annual basis. A huge “thank you†goes

out to each of you. Volunteer opportunities are always available by

sending an e-mail to info ( -at -) socallinuxexpo.org.

The SCALE 11X Exhibitor Contest winners are:

Favorite Clothing Item: Puppet Labs

Most Interesting Swag: HP

Strangest Swag: Zenoss

Most Useful Swag: Silicon Mechanics

Most Passionate .Org: BeagleBoard/PandaBoard

In other announcements, openSUSE held a raffle for a Raspberry Pi, and

the money raised in the raffle, $265, was donated to SCALE.

Over the next several days, the SCALE Team will be posting photos and

other news from the expo. Visit http://www.socallinuxexpo.org for

details.

Last, and certainly not least, the SCALE Team thanks everyone who

attended SCALE 11X, and we hope the event was a success for attendees.
