Know someone who should â or wants to â learn Linux?
SCALE 11X is bringing back last year's very successful Linux Training
class, an intensive, two-day training class the same weekend as the
expo at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport hotel.
Presented by professional trainers from One Source Course and SCALE
volunteers, students will come away with the ability to install and
maintain a Linux operating system.
Cost of the class is $35, which includes installation media, training
handouts, and a pass to the Linux Expo floor. Expo seminar access is
not included because the training class will occupy all of both
Saturday and Sunday.
Attendees are expected to bring a computer suitable for installing
Linux. Laptops are encouraged but desktops are acceptable.
Installations will be Linux-only; dual-booting is beyond the scope of
this class. So bring a computer you can dedicate to Linux.
NOTE: Do not bring a computer running Windows 8. Microsoft has forced
computer makers to implement Secure Boot, which makes installing an
alternate operating system problematic.
Minimum hardware requirements for Linux installation (and more is
better, of course):
CPU: 2.0 GHz or higher
Disc Space:10 Gigabytes for installation; recommend 20-30 Gigabytes or
more of additional space for data
RAM: 1 Gigabyte or more
Network interface: Wired: mandatory. Wireless: optional
