i had the same problem in w98 so often, that was the reason i am using w2k now. But how could the ie5 locked up all the system.Any experiences?

problem must be because of the hw . i mean it is impossible ,ie5 to crash the whole system. maybe rams , graphic card or something else . but not the ie5 .

Well here's what happened with mine.

Have you notice your mouse skipping around alot when it happens? Perhaps when your start menu appears, the highlighter doesnt follow your curser fast enough?

What I found was that after I had done some tweaking of my registry, then ran task manager to look at performance, my processor was being over 70% utilized all the time. Normally it should be around 3%, for a p2 450. This was crashing my browser as well as a couple other things.

Check out your task manager and look at your system performance.... make sure your processor is being utilized correctly. Since I reinstalled, I havn't had the problem at all, and my processor utilization is back down to <3%. Hope this helps!

i crashed when i choosed favorites , (when it appeared).

i did not do any registry tweaking.

but cel333 and 64mb may not be enough.

otherwise it is a hw problem. ie5 crashes w98 so often which drives me crazy .

but when i do a burnin test . no problem it works for hours.

i cant find out the problem.

IE5 crashed my PC as well, more than once. I was clicking on a link for example, and it did nothing...tried twice, three times, and my PC just rebooted...no BSOD, nothing! I switched to 98, which gave me problems after a while with IE5.01 (IE instances spawned out of nowhere, eating up my resources), so finally i switched to NT and Netscape smile Thank God that only IE2 is bundled with NT. Lame Adaptec EasyCD Creator 4.0 needs IE5 (?!) so forget that too...

An advice for u: reinstall IE5 that comes on any MS cd (like Office2000) or dload from the web...that fixed my problem (for a while) smile

Was it a keyboard/mouse freeze, but everything else seemed normal (mp3/mpegs keep playing, web page still displayed)? I mean, no sign of crash excpet you can't input anything?

If so, do a search on the message board for hard freeze, and click "hard freeze in win2k"

Alot of people are having a random freeze problem, but not necessarily associated with IE5.

I also experienced the IE5 crash yesterday. I was in the middle of downloading a lot files (clicking on links, right-clicking to "save as" etc.) And then suddenly clicking on links did not have any effect. Only Right-clicking on a link and choosing "open in new window" actually followed the link.

Then suddenly the screen went blue (not "the" blue screen, but I could only see the blue background pattern). The only thing moving on the screen was the mouse pointer.

I ctrl-alt-del'ed, to get to task manager, and then suddenly I was back at the normal Win2k desktop. Only with the exception that my "connected to the Internet (ADSL)" icon had disappeared from systray (but I was still connected).
