Many have tried to challenge GoogleÂ’s dominance of the search market over

the past few years, from small startups to big-name players with deep

pockets. But perhaps with the exception of Microsoft, which has poured

billions into its search efforts, all have failed to gain any significant



A relative newcomer to the search market, DuckDuckGo isnÂ’t shying away from

the monumental task, however. In fact, with a simple, straightforward

interface and clean results theyÂ’ve come up with one of the most appealing

Google alternatives to date. Even if they are still far from changing the

status quo, their no nonsense approach to privacy and instant answers are

worth taking note of.


We had a chance to talk with the siteÂ’s creator Gabriel Weinberg a couple

of weeks ago. HereÂ’s what he had to say about his four-year-old search

engine startup and his competitors.
