Hi there.

Does anyone know how I can change the refresh rates that my monitor uses in different resolutions? In 98, I used a utility called HZTOOL, which was great, because it allowed my Dell P990 to run my games at 120hz in 800x600, 1024x768, etc...

Now my games run in crappy 75hz in all monitor modes and I can't figure out how to change this. This is using a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP.

Is there a place in the registry to enter this information? Please don't say I'm condemned to running games at 75hz in Windows 2000. This would really break my heart.

I have the same card with the same problem. I tried powerstrip but what a piece of crap. It doesn't even work. I can't change defaults and when I set a preset for a game it just ignores it. I guess I just don't get it. All I want is to have a certain frequency used when I run at a resolution. I guess Powerstrip aint it. I just need something quick and easy.

I'm probably missing something here, but if you just go into the Display control panel and go through each resolution and color depth and set a refresh rate for it, Windows will automatically use the refresh rate you set for each one the next time it's used.
Just go into the panel, choose a resolution, then go to Advanced and (assuming you have the right monitor selected), go to the Monitor page and set the refresh rate - and so on.

Actually it sort of remembers for the desktop only. Even then, go to 640X480 and then cycle back through, the refresh rates are messed up again.

The problem is DirextX, Glide, OpenGL etc. Anything not a standard desktop screen it defaults very low. Which of course is not only bad because it is a low refresh rate, but that it is hosed up because the monitor presets are now messed up.

Powerstrip is not userfriendly for the 30 min I tried it. And it doesn't seem to work the way I need it.

We just need a simple program that will give us the frequency vs the resolution we want.

Try this. Go to dxdiag and click on more help. Then overide the refresh rate for what you want. For some reason this worked for Quake3 and UT for me.

Hmm, I think that will only allow me up to 85 hz and I want 120hz (which is what my monitor supports.) I will try it though and report back here in a bit.

You can try PowerStrip that worked for me. I don't know anything about Voodo, but for TNT and so on, you can edit your driver (*.inf) before installin it and their you have the diffrent rate availables for differents screen size (I wiped out every rate under 100 Hz :)) and then install your driver again with your tuned *.inf.
I know that it does not workwith V3, but look in reistry, you may find something (try the search button in RegEdit .

I tried the registry a few times, nothing there. I know i've done that before though with other cards. I am suspecting that 3DFX hides it in a .dll
