Obtaining IE8

Recommended Posts

Running WinXP 32-bit, I've avoided Internet Explorer 8 for various reasons for quite a long time but I might now give it a try. I see that it's available to download here:

Does anyone know if when you click on the Download you're given an option to simply save the IE8 file on download for installation at your leisure, or whether it automatically both downloads and installs in one operation as per downloads from Windows Update? I want to avoid the latter of those two.

I'm not sure what will happen using the link you posted, so use this link:

It downloads a standalone installer, but does still require an active internet connection as it will download and install updates and files as needed to complete the IE8 install. You should definitely install IE8... it is much more secure than older versions, and many web sites no longer support IE6 or IE7 and won't be displayed properly.
