Running MechWarrior3 in Windows 2000

How to set this up?

I've heard things like 'Install it under Windows 9x and then move the Mech Warrior 3 registry entries to Windows 2000'...

Is there an easier way?

I installed it under win2k server and it ran but had bad sound problems. I downloaded the patch from the companies site and now it works great. Music sounds kinda strange so I turned the music off, not really sure if its messing up or just is strange music
