Heroes III Millennium Edition in Win2k

I'm have a problem with Heroes III Millennium Edition in Win2k. During the install, the installer crashes out at random points during the file copy process. I have no idea why it would be doing this, i've installed many other applications with no problem(so it ain't the cd drive). Anyone else with the millenium edition have this problem? From my reading I think that the original version installs and works fine with smp disabled.
