H&D + Win2k = how the hell can u save??

When you r playing a game in Hidden and Dangerous in win2k, how do u save.
Cause i tryed pressing escape and then clicking on save, but the hard drive doesnt write anything, cause when i press escape again there is no load button to press.
It worked fine in win98.
I can only think that there might be a read only file where all the saves save to.
But i can only find one and theres nothing wrong with it.
