Epson scanner and RH9

My Epson scanner -- perfection 640U -- was working just fine with RH7.1. Now I have installed RH9 and neither the Gimp nor Sane can fnd the scanner. I have double-checked everything I know to check -- the /etc/modules.conf file, the /etc/sane.d/epson.conf file, the link to /dev/usb/scanner0, the permissions on scanner0. As far as Ic an tell, everything is in order. Can anyone think of anything I am missing? Is there something new about RH9 that I should know about?

I assume that you uncommented the section in epson.conf usb /dev/usb/scanner0?

Also, did you make sure that it should not be usb /dev/usbscanner0?

Finally, what does the sane-find-scanner output give you?
