Q3 test & Savage 3d under NT : No go ?

I have a liitle problem:
I have a (Hercules)Savage 3d Video card (I know, it's ****ty..) and I'm trying to run Quake 3 test 1.08 under NT 4.0. So, with the Newest (not to be confused with "new") Hercules or S3 drivers I get a lockup on loading the map.

Is there anything different I can try?
(GLsetup does not work under NT I understand)

Help is appreciated very much...
