My computer was freezing so I set the video acceleration slider in the advanced section of the display properties to the very lowest. After doing this I realized Direct x was disabled so I decided to rise it up somewhere in the middle. I went back to the control panel to change it but now when I click "advanced..." under settings of the Display Properties is get the following error:
"An error occurred while Windows was working with the Control Panel file C:\WINNT\System32\desk.cpl"

Now I can no longer use directx or change my graphics properties, refresh rate, etc. I tried using safe mode but it still wont work. Is there some file with this information that I could modify? Can anyone HELP ME?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,

I had the same problem once before. It turned out to be a bad stick of ram.

This happened to me too when i forst upgraded to windows 2000. I am sure that it was cured by re-installing the graphics card rivers.
