please help, strange one this

i TOTALLY formatted my hard drive recreated 2 partitiions C: & D: 1 for win98 one for win2kpro, win98 installed, but gave an error message, first it told me to install smartdrive (what is that?) then it said i had a compression utility on my drive and scandisk would not work with MSDOS 5.0 or less?????
but it still installed ok. tried to install win2kpro and it said couldn't installed loader please check C; is formatted and not damaged! so i got a new drive and it did exactly the same as the old one??

anyone know what to do? i'm at my whits end!

How did you format the two partitions (from another OS, from Windows bootdisk, etc). Also is your harddrive SCSI or IDE?

is ok, i've fixed it now! it needed to have smartddrv.exe loaded from the boot floppy then it work perfectly.

very strange tho!

smartdrive is old dos disk cacheing software.. the reason they tell you to do it is because it speeds up file transfer. Without it you would be sitting there installing for about 3 days =)
