We have just had a workstation delivered with an Adaptec 19160 Ultra160 card in.
Little bit confused here, but can older devices like a Pioneer DVD-ROM, Yamaha CD-RW & Iomega ZIP drive be attached to a card like this?
I'm assuming they are backwards compatible with non-Ultra160 devices?

SCSI is almost always made backwards compatible [except in the case of the LVD/fibre connection], but I would check Adaptec.com, and just be sure it has the 50-pin connector. If so, the you're fine.

IT IS backwards compatible. I use them every day (19160 and 29160) and are great controllers. I tried them with all kind of LVD/SE/UW/F2 devices with no problem at all.
