In mid-February, PC Perspective broke the story
(http://www.pcper.com...cle.php?aid=669) about a potential issue with
Intel's X25-M mainstream solid state drives involving fragmentation and
performance slow downs. At that time, after having the news picked up by
everyone from CNet to the Wall Street Journal, Intel's started working with
us to replicate the problem and find a fix if at all possible. Well today,
we are glad to discuss, Intel has released a new firmware for the X25-M
line of SSDs that not only fixes the flaws we found in the drive initially,
but also increases write performance across the board.

We have the full analysis of the original problem, details on the fix and
full performance comparison between original and newly released firmwares.

Quote: "The 8820 firmware has completely renewed my faith in the X25-M.
The weak link has been eradicated, and I’m thoroughly impressed with the
renewed performance it will bring to all M series drive users. I am also
thoroughly pleased with Intel for being so open to feedback from the
reviewers."

Thanks for passing on this information!
