ide controller cards

I am having much trouble with my ide controller card. It is a promise card
mandrake 9.1 does not like my card at all. is there anyplace i can find some inforation on ide controler cards with linux. i have checked the promise website and found nothing I have tried the mandrake site and also found nothing. I have tried looking with other distros and have had no luck. can anyone help me or at least point me in the right direction.

I usually do a search on google for 'linux hardware/model#. A large majority of the time my answer is found on the first few returned hits. Give it a shot.

if you don't know the model try lspci -v and check.
if not work try to update de pciids database at http://pciids.sourceforge.net/
the go to /usr/src/linux-[version] and make xconfig and in ATA/IDE... check for it...
if is not mentioned try to search google for model and linux.
