I have gone through all the procedures to share a HP all in one printer that is hardwired to my desktop. On the desktop I shared the printer, On the laptop I ran add a printer wizard. When the wizard browses for the printer, it lists my desk top computer name but not the shared printer. On the desktop the printer has the hand to indicate that it is shared.

Which version of Windows are you running? If Vista, then you need to allow Print Sharing in the Network and Sharing Center. If you have firewall enabled, then you need to allow File and Print Sharing in the Firewall Exceptions list as well.
