Website Blocking Due To Adblockers

Recommended Posts

Has anybody else noticed a recent influx of websites that redirect you to an ADBLOCKER page ?!?

Seems to me that it's becoming more and more of a real problem but I guess that is their right to do so, it's their website.

As a consumer it's also my right to plonk said website(s) and delete any bookmarks I have to these sites as well wink

I suppose if they feel like they are not getting paid enough from their click-throughs, then perhaps they need to find a better paying solution to hosting their website.

Sorry folks if this sounds like a rant, just wondering if any others have noticed this trend or not.....

Nah, haven't noticed anything yet. If a site blocks me for using Ad Blockers well I just won't visit them anymore.

Ads drive me into a blinding rage where I just want to kill something. Obviously not a good thing....solution? Ad Blockers. They drive my blood pressure down and speed up my internet connection.

My stance is: If somebody has bothered to waste revenue on advertisements then more than likely the product is not good enough for someone of my intelligence. Therefore I feel no guilt at blocking it. I know how to use google so I can search for things I want to buy. It's called research. Instead of being a click-happy fool, I research things I want to buy.

With ads you risk slower connection, homicidal rage killing spree's, spyware/viruses, tracking your activities, etc etc.

Interesting to note you HOMOCIDAL rage tendancies there dosfreak, I am to a somehwat lesser degeree, in the same boat.

I get outraged at how many sites seem to depend on the paltry ad revenue bread crumbs left on the floor crazy

As for me plonking sites that redirect me to their own adblocking page, well, too bad for them, I will go elsewhere instead and spread the word about them too.

Notice that when there are news posts here and I follow the store to their site and get redirected, I will post a comment about their adblocking redirects too wink

If everyone is blocking advertisements we will have sooner or later an Internet without free websites. Bear in mind that many sites depend on their ad revenue after it pays the server, bandwidth, etc.

I am always trying to keep the advertisements on my sites as less annoying as possible and even reviewing them from time to time. This seems the best way to make everyone happy.

I do see your point Philip and I appreciate your honesty on this issue and that you try to limit the most annoying of these adverts wink

I guess my point is I run a personal forum and host it through iPowerWeb hosting, I don't require any of my users to pay for the forums and I don't allow any ads on the site, I pay for the annual service myself along with the domain name renewell.

I'm not what you call Mr. Moneybags either but I do believe in the dicemanation of free information to anybody that wants it and it saddens me that so many want to make a buck with adverts on their sites.

To each their own I guess and if the net ends up being a pay to browse service I guess I will just go back to playing offline games and such....

I don't block google text ads (because I don't noticed them anyway) phillip and I don't bother to block the amazing annoying popup ads here @ ntcompatible...mostly because I'm too lazy....although I'll be reading someone's post and getting a stupid box popping up getting in the way of my reading is insanely annoying.

Again I don't notice any ads so I'm sure they probably work....the amount of money advertisements rake in supports this. I am by no means a normal person. (I remember mocking commercial when I was 6yrs old due to their stupidity. smile

Heck, I don't even have cable TV or over the air TV because I hate advertisements. I do dish out the money on TV shows on DVD and movies.....waaayy too much money.

You can't compare a small website with a larger one. Most shared web hosting companies would shut down larger websites immediately, even some claim to have unlimited traffic or web space. You find usual a clause in their AUP about CPU and memory usage.

The only alternative for such sites are dedicated servers, which are much more expensive. I am sure most review websites on the front page are running on dedicated servers.

Those are not popups but IntelliTXT. I find these ads quite acceptable after the links are marked with double lines and the ad will only show up if you move the cursor over the link. I use them only on two locations, one are the forum threads.

Well personally I find the InteliTXT one of the most annoying aspects of any website. Anything that blocks the view of what I am trying to read means I won't be back to that site so let's see how much revenue they generates for them with NO visits. Sites need to figure out if they are going to be nothing more then advertisements or an actually usefull website. I spend Less and less time on the net because it has become nothing more then a money generating monster that panders only to advertisements.

If a website wants to use adds then fine. put all the ADS one one page off the main page and if someone wants to waste time browsing ads then they can go to that page and clic away. If I want to waste my time with ads I'll watch tv but PLEASE PLEASE give me at least one place in the world where I can relax and get AWAY from all this constant annoying advertising!

and remember that those ads generate the revenue just because they are there not because anyone actually wants them there!
