Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness

I know its an old game, but a buddy of mine said it was fun, we played it on his computer just fine, but when i install it on mine, it starts a black screen with some words on top with something to do with dos/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-Time Version 1.7
This screen appears for like 2 seconds and then my monitor clicks and goes back to my desktop and the game never opens. I tried changing the properties of the game to have it run in 256 colors, and it still does this. It would be nice to get it working... Any advice?
3.0 GHz prescott CPU
1 gig OCZ memory
Saphire X800 XT Graphics Card

I have a different problem. I started playing Warcraft II again on my laptop. The problem is whenever I "attack" the upper portion of the screen the game shuts off and returns to the main start up menu. Any ideas on how to stop this?
