Windows Defender any good?

Recommended Posts

As of today (25th Jan 2007), am I correct in thinking that Microsoft's Defender is now completely out of beta testing and is now a fully-fledged add-on?

How reliable is it, working under WinXP?

IE6 SP1 surely already includes anti-popup, so why is it also included in Defender?

Defender is annoying and lame. It is really only good for people who do not really know what they are doing to a computer. It protects people from making stupid mistakes on the Internet and becoming submissive to stupid e-mail tricks. If you are confident with your security practices on the Internet and e-mail, then don't bother with Windows Defender.

Well, you have to consider that most users of the world wide web do not have a slight clue what internet security really is and what the first line of defence are.

brain - pc - av - firewall -> internet.

never put your entire trust to software security.

Neither hardware when im thinking about it.
