replacing on-board video with PCI video card

Recommended Posts

I have an HP Pavillion 705 and I can't get any video. I tried with multiple monitors including a new one. After concluding the on-board video is bad, I bought a new PCI video card and put it in. But, without working video, I can't disable the on-board video and enable the new card.

Can anyone help<question-mark> (my question mark key is broken!)

Thanks,

Bret

This could actually be more then just a bad on-board graphics adapter.

Try this to verify things:

1) Unplug the power cord and then carefully remove the chassis cover.

2) Carefully remove *all* RAM/DIMM memory modules from the motherboard.

3) Plug the power cord back in and power on the machine.

Now then, do you get a POST beep error message, should be a single long beep denoting no memory found or couldn't initialize memory.

If you don't get any POST beep error messages, then most likely you have something else wrong with the machine and it most likely isn't the on-board graphics adapter.
