HOT Vio Sony Notebook, took precautions prior

My VIO Sony Notebook has ALWAYS run hot !
I leave the notebook on top of a cookie rack (yes, from my kitchen) - not HOT now, but still warm.

Now = Display is out !!!! Any idea if problem above relates to display

Sony Tech Support was absolutely no help
Best Buy (where purchased) likewise no help on this topic.
