Music edit software

hello,
is there a software out there that can edit an mp3 file. A software that can remove the lyrics or voice of the singer so that what remains is only the instrumental. Like a minus one. I need it badly for our school play..

Take a look at audacity. It can be found at audacity.sourceforge.net. Note that removing vocals doesn't always work (in this or any software), see the following article for some comments:

Audacity is an excellent program.

is there a software other than audacity? i cant get to remove the lyrics part.

Im afraid to tell you it is not that easy.
It's not like you will find a magic button to remove lyrics, and it's done. Anyway, there are some programs which have some "specific frequency removal" presets which correspond to the human voice range, but it may also remove some frequencies which correspond to certain instruments.

The real trick is knowing very well about equalization. Once you can deal with it, you'll do it fine with any software.

PS: I use Adobe Audition, works as a charm
