American McGee's Alice

Help! I installed Alice and install went fine - but when I try and open the program, it crashes on the splash screen! Can someone help me? I have Windows XP Professional.

Nina, what video card are you using? If it is a Matrox, you can download a patch here that might work. http://www.download.com/American-McGee-s-Alice-Matrox-patch/3000-2103_4-10236075.html

ATI Radeon Mobility X3000. It crashes as soon as I click on the icon to open it. I read somewhere that you have change the .exe file and it should work. Do you know how to do that?

I used to have the same problem with Alice and a couple of other games. Removing Starforce from my system helped and now everything works fine. So if you own any Starforce-protected games you should try the Starforce removal tool (the only way to get rid of the bugger), which you can get here:

My pleasure. Just remember that Starforce has a nasty habit of reinstalling itself, so you may have to run the removal tool again after playing the Starforce-protected game.
