Hi,
New to posting on the forums first off (long time reader) so hi :-).

And i've got a query...
I am currently rolling out some laptops under windows xp sp2 and i've had an issue where by some of our CAD software requires the laptops to have comms 1 port in order to download new data from the server (which there isn't and it only see's lpt1). Is there any way of configuring LPT1 port under xp so that it thinks it is a comm port? I.e COM1?

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers,
Dave.

Most laptops have USB ports so have you thought of using a USB to serial adaptor? This page might give you an idea how it could be done: http://www.cropscan.com/SerialUSB.html

I don't know of any such software.

The laptops have a parallel port but not a serial port? Could always get a USB->Serial adapter or just use the docking station.
