Well I'm sure you'll know what I mean by the thread title but heres the problem:

Turok 2 just wont start up on win XP.
The compatibility feature on windows has no effect (But that really doesn't do anything anyway)

How do I get it to work?

Don't have Turok 2 (the full game), but I do have the demo and it works fine.

So when you start the game it doesn't throw up any error messages or anything?

As for the compatibility feature in 2000/XP/2003/Vista. It actually does alot, but it can only do what it's programmed to do. It's not magic.

I double click on the game icon to play the game and nothing happens.
I doesn't even try bring up any messages at all or anything.
I also have this problem with many other win 95/98 old games.

But I'm focusing on Turok 2 for the moment.

I still haven't got it to work but after messing around more with the compatibility thing, If I choose "Windows NT SP5" widnows will actually ask for the CD to be inserted. Meaning it is somewhat starting up. But nothing else happens after that (even with the disk inserted)

With any other compat setting - windows wont even get as far as realising that the game needs the CD to play.

*Edit*
Having no compat settings also asks you for the disk as well but it still doesn't work even with the disk.

Strange, no problem running Turok 2 in Windows XP SP-2 without any compatible changes.

It complained about the graphic card first time at startup but
that could be changed to a compatible card in Turok 2

What graphic card do you have ? Turok runs without problem on
NVidia 6800 PCI Express.

Turok 2 doesn't use copy protection does it? If so then what you described sounds like the typical problems with game copy protection.

But why is it only Windows XP that is preventing it from working?
Someone on another forums has the same problems but his works on any opperating systems other than Windows XP.

Another thing to add.
All the computers that I have tried this on that don't work all have Windows XP SP2

Those of you who have this game working, could you say if your using SP2 or not?

One more thing - I had task manager open then I tried to run the program but it didn't even show up in task manager, not even for a second.

So the program isn't actualy starting up, there's something in there that Windows XP SP2 doesn't like.

ITS WORKING

I got it working, and alls I did was renamed the exe from Turok2english to Turok2.

Maybe the name was too long or something?

Anyway I can now play the game so I;m happy. Well nearly.
Theres just no music though but someone on this forum made a thread way back about that so I'm going to dig that out.
