networking across 2 Routers and XP Pro and Win2k

Hi I have been trying to network multiple computers together to share folders. I am Across 2 routers tho, One Computer is running Windows 2000, the other is running Win XP Pro. I have been unable to access the Win2000 computer from the XP computer and Vise Versa.
Do I need to enable something specific? Do I need to set up some sort of Routing table in the routers to allow this? I have tried just connecting through one router and still cannot connect the 2 computers. Help please
