Hi mexgirl87!
I also have Ubuntu 5.10 on one of my machines. You really don't need the download you have. On the top of your screen go to
System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Open Synaptic Package Manager, and in the window on the right, scroll down until you see amsn in the listing (be sure to have "All" selected in the window to the left). Click on the box to the left of "amsn" and select "mark for installation". Another dialog will open, with required packages, click on "mark" in the bottom right hand corner, and then click "Apply" at the top of the page. That should do it for you! Synaptic Package Manager is a great tool in Ubuntu, really makes adding software easy!
Post back if you have any problems, but, you shouldn't have any problems.
