I have a dell inspirion laptop that has recently crashed, of course. The user has some sensitive data that they need recovered. I tried using Knoppix to recover the data onto a Seagate USB External Hard Disk, but i'm getting errors. It looks like permissions issue, but i'm unsure. I unchecked the read-only box when i right-clicked the external usb drive icon on the disk, but a simple copy and paste is not working. I know i'm missing something easy, but really could use some help/direction.

Thanks,

Take a look at this fine article and see if it helps.

Just to check, what filesystem is on the external USB hard drive?
