Black screen in Half-Life

I have a very big problem. When I'm playing Half-Life, it's all OK. But when I press 'Esc', the black screen appears and nothing. I can press 'Esc' again and I am back to the game. But I can't get to the main menu! Black screen appears in all Half-Life, Half-Life: Opposing Force, and Half-Life: Blue Shift. Please help! I have AMD Athlon 750 MHz, ATi Rage 128 Pro 32 MB, RAM 256 MB, Windows 2000 Professional with SP4.
