I recently tried (several times) to install Fedora Core 4 on my machine. I downloaded the fc4-i386-disc1-4.iso. I used K3b to burn them, I did select "New data Project">tools>CD>Burn iso Image. I burned at 8x speed. Every time I tried to insall (I also tried the DVD image with the same results) Fc4 would come to the first main page, I would select "enter" to install in graphical mode (I also tried text, to no avail), FC4 would begin to load the kernel, and then I would get this:
[<c01202eb7>] panic+0x13b/0x1b0

Can someone tell me what the problem is? I also tried re-downloading fom a different mirror. Did I get the wrong download?
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Did you check the md5 checksum? I'm still downloading FC4 now so I can't try installing yet.

If the md5 checksum(s) is/are correct then try:
When you are at the FC boot: prompt, press F2 - F4 to see addional commands for starting setup.
For example, I had to use:
linux resolution=1024x768 nofb, to get the graphical installer working right.
Try running it with:
linux pci=nosort
<edit>
I have successfully installed FC4 from DVD.
Only problem was with framebuffer for some reason.

I'm beginning to think this is hopeless!
I tried both suggestions Wilhelmus had, and I still end up at this same screen:

IT WORKED!!!!!
Thank you Wilhelmus!
I typed:
linux resolution=1024x768 nofb
at the main boot prompt, and here we are, FC4 is up and running on this machine!
Thanks Again

Hi.
I have the same problem as Justbill.
I tried both remedies that Wilhelmus suggested with the same panic error message.
I installed FC3 on the same machine without any hickups.
Please help
