Hey all.

Got my second PC at home now, and this one is far better than the one that's runnning Win 98.

But as we all know, I have plenty of problems, so here's my next one for ya....

Windows XP is the current OS on the system. My hard drive is 80G and has 2 partitions (pre-partitioned from manufacture). It runs fine but i would prefer it if Windows 2000 was on it (with SP4, obviosly). I have the disk, just need the method, on how to get rid of Win XP in exchange for Win2000 w/SP4. I have all my documents backed-up, there safe!

All installtion CD's are at the ready, I have my 4 start up disks done too!

Current state:
Partition 1: This is my C: drive, and has the Windows XP installation on it, along with all my programs, games, etc... (45GB)
Partition 2: This is my D: drive, and has all the drivers for my hardware. (35GB. God knows why it was made so big???)

Well there you have it. Hope to hear of a method soon.
Thanks in anticipation.

Phoenix wink

PS: Not thinking of networking the 2 PC's at all!!

There are two methods, either delete contents of C: by formatting the C: drive by booting from either the XP or 2000 CD and use Disk Setup screen to format it.

You can delete the C: partition and create a fresh C: partition (make sure it comes up as C:, not E: or something by removing any removable drives eg. USB, ZIp etc).

Then install 2000 as normal.

My .02c

Can you move your programs, games, etc. to second partition?
Then you can use the 2000 setup application to format the first partition. After that you can install the 2000 to it.

Hey, thanks for replying.

Problem sorted. although, it was a 60GB hard drive not 80. i backed up everything and made 3 partitions on my computer.

C:\ drive is 30GB and has Win2000 w/SP4
D:\ drive is 22.5GB and has Win 98 SE
E:\ drive is 7.5GB and holds all my music ont he PC.

Thanks for helping.

Didn't realise how easy it once, until i was actually doing it.

Now, i'm off to driverguide.com to get some...well...drivers! laugh
