well after too many hours last nite of fooling around with different distro's i went back to mandrake and worked out my video glitch, well ive ran the updates and everything for my 10.1 and i downloaded the source of xchat.2.4.3.tar.bz2 and i extracted it fine, i ran ./configure and after a few moments i see something like
checking for GLIB - version >=2.0.3 no
***Could not run GLIB test program, checking why...
The test program failed to compile a link. See the config.log
for the exact error that occured. This usually means glib is incorrectly installed.
configure error cannot find glib.
doing rpm -qa | grep glib i see the following
libglib1.2-1.2.10-14mdk
glibc-devel-2.3.3-23.1.101mdk
glibc-utils-2.3.3-23.1.101mdk
glibc-2.3.3-23.1.101mdk
libtaglib0-1.3-1mdk
libglib2.0_0-2.4.6-1mdk
libdbus-glib-1_0-0.22-3mdk
so i would assume that glib is installed, not really sure, been a few years since i used any linux operating system, when i try using the update software, i select all the items under glib and it gives me an error about loading the dvd into /dev/hdc or something like that, cant remember exact error, but after i insert the dvd in it just says cant read the device.
pls help
