Nope, you are not alone. (I do not use AntiVir, though, so I can not verify the update server.) It(http://www-free-av.com/) replies to pings, but Opera can not access page, slow as h***. But the http://www.free-av.de/ works...

Alec, they're not down; they are overtaxed. Anti-vir is having to update not just the virus definitions but also the engines. Apparently, the I-Bagle or MyDoom variant that is out there inserts a registry key and runs a program that disables the Antivirus program you are running. Anti-vir's servers are pretty taxed since this is the second engine in so many days it is having to download.

I just got an e-mail back (03/09/05) from someone from AntiVir...very quickly I might add. Here's the scoop:

Dear user of the AntiVir Personal Edition,

We thank you very much for your inquiry

The download servers of the Personal Edition are presently overloaded due to the high virus emergence. Because of this reason the users have to count with delays. H+BEDV has already reacted and is increasing its capacities at present.

Please try to download the update at a later period of time, if possible during the late business hours or in the early morning.

We thank you for your understanding.

Please visit our forum at www.free-av.de, if you would like to contact our support team.

Best regards

H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH
