Emulator help (NES) suggest a controller?

I have FCE Ultra NES emulator. I have a Saitek P220 controller. It is not working for some reason. I've tried configuring it but the UP and DOWN will not work.

Let me tell you one thing. NES emulators and any other game console emulators is ILLEGAL! Although, you can buy a NES and a game at www.gamestop.com or www.rocketdeals.com. I will recommend deleting the emulator from your hard drive, and try my suggestions. Besides, game console emulators might have a virus, or data that can damage your PC. I'm not trying to make you upset, or anything, this is just a caution.
