there are lots of ways
http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm
http://www.briansbuzz.com/w/030213/
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;312149
in a nutshell, so many methods, which to suggest?
Easiest is if you have a windows 2000 cd handy or know someone who has it. Boot up from it & use the recovery console.
delete the local user file SAM. in
\windows\system32\config, and voila, no password problem.
reboot the computer
issue is - people use NTFS for the hard drisk now and don't know how to delete files using a boot disk which allows you write access to ntfs.
or they want to reset passwords of just one account and not lose all accounts. anyhow..
if you don't have NTFS and use FAT, simply delete the files.
else
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
http://people.cs.uchicago.edu/~gmurali/gui/index.html
http://www.windowsubcd.com/contents.htm
if in a panic or someone wants to pay -this always works.
$150http://www.winternals.com/products/repairandrecovery/erdcommander2002.asp?pid=erd
$70http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/product.cfm?page=buyitnow&id=265
check the links above
if you have any questions, someone can help.
if it's a computer you can touch, it's yours.

Great post, sysdvo.
Personally, I use this one:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
It works sufficiently well.
