No sound with Creative Soundblaster PCI sound device

I keep getting an error message saying that my soundcard isn't working properly. In the Device Manager it says that the sound device is working properly. But when I try to play music in Windows Media Player it gives me an error message. Windows Media Player is the only program running any playback features currently. No other programs will play sound either. What do I do?

One of the programs that comes with the soundblaster drivers is a diagnostic. You can check here: http://alive.singnet.com.sg/ or here http://www.creative.com/support/ for the latest software for your card if you can't find the diagnostic program.
