I'm a Linux newbie.

I configured a Dell Latitude X300 dual-boot Fedora and XP. On XP, everything's cool.

But when I boot into Linux, I can't get an external monitor to show anything at all -- it gets no signal. I've tried docked and undocked, I've tried various external monitors (LCD and CRT), and I've tried a wide range of xorg.conf settings. I never even get a flicker from the external monitor.

Any suggestions? Many thanks,

Sam

Have you ran the xorg configure utility???

Xorg -configure

The above is for 'automatic'

To semi-manually (or semi-automatically) enter stuff in, like vertical and horizontal refresh try:

xorgconfigure

Try this out, and see if it makes any difference.

I had the sample problem with my inspiron. Check you bios settings. Make sure you've selected simul mode instead of LCD mode. Now this may cause your failsafe terminals (F1-F6) to flicker on the laptop itself. For some strange reason, when you have an external monitor plugged in, BIOS treats that as the primary monitor, and you secondary monitor (internal LCD) will flicker on the terminals.

Good luck
