I currently have service pack 2 v.2096 installed on windows xp pro; i'm having trouble installing directx 9.0c, even after i go through the directx 9.0c installation procedures, it just shows that i have 9.0b installed. I have used directx eradicator, but it really doesn't help. I noticed that service pack 2 isn't listed under the "supported operating systems" listings on microsoft's web page for directx, is that the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated....i must play sims 2, and it won't let me play without 9.0c....sucks.

When you installed SP2, DirectX 9.0c should have been installed by default. If you installed a game and it directed you to use 9.0b and installed that for you, I hate to say it, but you are up the creek. It is not elegant, but re-installing SP2 should restore the 9.0c.

I am having the same problem as Homer with my DirectX 9.0c. I have it downloaded on my computer but it's not being recognized by my Sims 2 game. It still says I only have DirectX 9.0b. I have Windows Professional service pack 2. I would reinstall service pack 2 but is there an easy way to do it? ...Is it necessary to back up all my files if I do reinstall it?
